From Classroom to Career: How Dr. Mody’s Guidance Reshaped My Journey

As a senior going into my final year of high school and preparing for significant choices of school and career commitments, I am in one of the most crucial parts of my life. Unlike many students in other schools who struggle to grasp what they want to do in the future, Saint Augustine Prep knows how to give its students the best possible connections to help them unlock their understanding of where they want to be in the years to come. I was one of those students who, through HermitsConnect, had the chance to meet with Dr. Tarak Mody ‘84. Dr. Mody, who, through research he did in college, became highly invested in biotechnology. He now continues to work on immuno-oncology, a cancer treatment for cancer patients. Specifically, he is the Chief Business Officer at Parker Institute for Cancer Immunotherapy. Although I already had a mapped-out plan of my goals for the future in becoming an orthopedic surgeon, being able to talk with Dr. Mody gave me not only insight into many practical aspects of paths to take in high school that would best set me up for my goals but also he gave me a quick deep dive into what he does for a living and how it relates to what I wanted to do in the future. Through the information that was given to me by Dr. Mody, I have become highly interested in participating in research at whatever university I attend as Dr. Mody believes that research is essential in helping you discover what you want to do as a career path because by being involved in research you gain so many profound experiences.

Zoom Call with Dr. Tarak Mody ‘84 - Chief Business Officer at Parker Institute for Cancer Immunotherapy

After this meeting with Dr. Mody, I was invited to talk about my experience at St. Augustine Prep's annual Open House. My main focus of the talk was to give as much information as possible on how transformative an experience with a professional in an area you intended to pursue can be in your understanding and shaping your goals. With this part of my talk, it was necessary to include HermitsConnect. This platform is not only a hub for all the connections you could ever need but is also entirely exclusive for Hermits Alumni and families. Something so brilliant about the Hermits Brotherhood is that it does not end once you leave the Prep; it stays forever. There is no better way to demonstrate this than by talking about HermitsConnect. It would not do St. Augustine Prep justice to only mention excellent academics and overpowering athletics. The primary benefit of being at St. Augustine Prep's tight-knit and supportive community is the ability to make long-lasting connections that will serve you for years.

I thank Dr. Mody for taking the time out of his day to meet with me, and I thank Mr. Towell and Mr. Foreman for making the meeting go so smoothly. And as always, GO HERMITS!
